Our Summer Squash Patch

About Us

Hubirland Homestead is a small farm located 35 min south of Winnipeg and 10 min west of Steinbach. Hidden by a clump of trees, our homestead sits on 40 acres of naturally farmed soil. Two gardens and a small orchard supply our family with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, onions, potatoes, raspberries, and apples. On the pastures during the summer the sheep, lambs, calves, and horses graze the fast-growing grass. Beside the pastures, a ten-acre field yields beautiful hay for the winter. Throughout the warm months, our free-run chickens bring fresh eggs each day that we gather for ourselves and for the incubators.

It all started in 2016, when we moved to the farm, many renovations had to be done. We replaced the dirt yard with gravel, built an addition to the house, repaired and put up fences.

In 2018-2019, the main shop was built, and another small building for bees and food processing.

In the fall of 2022, we constructed an addition to the barn to encompass hay and livestock. During all the time in between, in winter, our main farm occupation is cleaning the snow dunes and helping the newborn lambs. In the summer, we occupy ourselves with planting and pulling out the weeds.
